THE ISLAND OF UGLJAN
Size: 52 km2
Coast: more than 75 km
From the mainland (Zadar) it is separated by only a few kilometres wide Zadar channel.
The island is covered by pine trees, figs, vineyards, and olive trees.
There is a more than 2000-year-old tradition of olive oil production. Domestic olive oil is of high quality and it has a distinctive aroma.
On the northeastern coast of the island, well-known fishing and tourist towns and villages are located in natural bays: Kukljica, Kali, Preko, Ugljan.
The southwestern part of the island is unpopulated, and it is a real paradise for divers and sport fishermen with its attractive bays.
The inner part of the island is varied and covered by many routes that are ideal for cycling and hiking (cycling guides are available).
Well prepared bikers can visit »Sveti Mihovil”, a 250 meter high hill that is only a few kilometres away from the main road - a stronghold from the 13th century. From the top, you have a fantastic view of the islands (from the island of Rab, the Kornati islands to the city of Biograd in the southeast). You can also see the Velebit mountain range. There is also a wishing-bell for you to make a wish.
More than 2500 hours of clear skies per year, pebble and paved beaches, crystal-clear sea, excellent gastronomy, and great ferry connections with Zadar (it only takes 20 minutes to cross the Zadar Channel) are only a few reasons for unforgettable holidays on the island of Ugljan.
